Upsizing or Downsizing Your Vehicle
If it is your time again to change vehicles, it is also a good time to look at either upsizing or downsizing your car. Upsizing may mean looking at bigger car loans but it can also give added benefits, especially if you have a family. While the argument for downsizing usually revolves around environmental concerns there are, of course, excellent economic benefits as well.
Key Reasons for Upsizing
- More vehicle space for children.
- Increased viability for trade and business use.
- Upgrading models.
- Just for the joy of it!
Key Reasons for Downsizing
- For convenient parking.
- Savings on fuel costs.
- Protecting the environment.
- Cheaper to purchase.
While there are great arguments for both upsizing and downsizing your car, it remains a highly personal choice. It is more important to look at your own individual needs as well as finances when considering a new car. Obviously, you must also consider the amount you may be able to get for a car loan or if you have the cash to buy outright.
Environmental Concerns
With many new hybrid cars on the market, environmentally friendly vehicles are not limited to small makes and models. In fact, as technology improves most new cars are becoming increasingly fuel efficient. There are also numerous ‘standard’ sized vehicles that are run increasingly on alternative fuels.
The amount of cars on the road these days makes us all think about our impact on the environment. The sheer number of cars makes fuel more expensive as world stock begins to dwindle. Even if you are not purchasing a car with the environment in mind, it can save you money in the long run.
Need More Power?
Sometimes being environmentally friendly is not an option and you need to up-size your vehicle for work or recreational purposes. Four wheel drive enthusiasts are a good example as are tradies that need some power behind the wheel. Having a larger vehicle can be a necessity sometimes but you will have to trade some fuel efficiency to get the benefits of more horsepower.
Newer is Better!
We all love the new car smell and there is nothing better than purchasing a new car, not least because you are the first to drive it. Let’s not forget the peace of mind provided by manufacturer warranty that simply cannot be provided with second hand vehicles. Many people use the trade in value of their current car to upgrade models every few years or after a certain number of kilometres on the odometer:
- Find out the cost of your current vehicle to see about a trade in.
- Trade ins mean you can lessen the amount you need to borrow.
- If you trade in your vehicle it may mean the difference between a new and used car.
The best lesson to learn when looking at up-sizing or down-sizing your vehicle is to know what you need before you go shopping. If you have a strong list of your requirements you can avoid the usual run around at the car dealers. It will also mean that you will end up with a vehicle with a perfect fit for you!
